In families with known genetic mutations, those relatives who have not inherited the mutation may be spared the anxiety, the increased surveillance and other measures that are necessary for those at higher risk. With appropriate risk and testing information, patients and their physicians are better able to seek the most appropriate surveillance and (professional society guided) recommendations for their conditions.
